Meeting with the Commission Épiscopale Francophone pour les Traductions Liturgiques (CEFTL)

20 April 2024

From 8 to 11 April 2024, the Commission Épiscopale Francophone pour les Traductions Liturgiques (CEFTL) met at the French Seminary in Rome for its annual meeting. For the first time, a Delegate of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Fr. Pierre Paul, OMV, participated in an official capacity.

The role of the CEFTL is to prepare French translations of Latin liturgical texts, which must then be approved by the Bishops' Conferences of each country, according to the Postquam Summus Pontifex Decree.

The CEFTL is composed of bishops and national secretaries from North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya), Belgium, Canada, France, Luxembourg, the Archdiocese of Monaco and Switzerland. The Conférence Episcopale Régionale de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (CERAO) and the Conférence Episcopale du Pacifique (CEPAC) are associate members.

During the meeting, the CEFTL elected its new president, Mgr. Joseph de Metz Noblat, Bishop of Langres, to replace Mgr. Guy de Kérimel, Archbishop of Toulouse, who ended his term of office.

Among the topics discussed, the work on the new translations of the Ritual of the Funeral, the Ritual for the Sacrament of the Sick, the Martyrology, the Masses in Honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Liturgy of the Hours was reviewed.
