Ad Limina Visit of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference

On the morning of Wednesday 22 May 2024, the Episcopal Conference of Portugal, present in the Vatican for the ad limina Apostolorum visit, was received in the offices of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

In the discussion with the 26 Portuguese Bishops, two main topics were addressed. The first concerned liturgical celebrations in sanctuaries, with a special focus on the importance of ensuring that they are conducted with solemnity and respect, reflecting the spiritual meaning and communitarian value of the sanctuaries themselves.

The second topic was the application of the motu proprio Traditionis custodes in the country: the different ways in which Portuguese dioceses are implementing it were discussed.
