Ad Limina Visit of the Episcopal Conference of Sicily
On the morning of Friday, 3 May 2024, the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments received the 19 Bishops of the Sicilian Bishops' Conference, who were in the Vatican on an ad limina Apostolorum visit.
Among the various topics discussed, the most important concerned the theme of popular piety, a spontaneous and authentic expression of faith and source of spiritual nourishment for the faithful. During the meeting, they discussed how important it is to enhance it, purifying it of any negative elements and promoting it as a tool for growth in faith and evangelisation.
Another delicate topic discussed with the Sicilian prelates was that of godparents, whose presence has recently been suspended "ad experimentum and ad triennium" in the celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.
