Ad Limina Visit of the Episcopal Conference of Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone
On the occasion of their “ad limina Apostolorum” visit, the Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were received at the Dicastery on the morning of March 25, 2026. From the reports, it emerged that the young African Churches joyfully bear witness to the importance of the Eucharist and Sunday celebration in both individual and communal life.
The Bishops reaffirmed the importance of liturgical formation and mystagogy, which does not stop at the merely emotional dimension of celebrations, but accompanies the Christian community in its spiritual growth and in the intellectual understanding of the Mysteries being celebrated.
In the course of the dialogue, the Bishops of the Interterritorial Conference shared how vital it is to guide communities in understanding their own culture and religious expression, so as to lead them and gradually integrate them into the sacramental life of the Church.
During the meeting, discussion also focused on the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage, the proper use of sacramentals, the translation of liturgical books, and certain incorrect ritual models originating from some neo-Pentecostal movements, which are at times introduced into the Church’s liturgical practice.
