Ad Limina Visit of the Episcopal Conference of Nigeria

11 March 2026

During the month of March, the Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria came to Rome for its ad limina Apostolorum visit. On March 2 and 11, the Prelates met with the Superiors of this Dicastery and presented the liturgical life of the Church in Nigeria.

In the discussion on the state of the translation of the liturgical books, the Bishops shared their experiences regarding the variety of ethnic groups and languages spoken. They then wished to examine more closely the themes of religious syncretism, neopaganism, and Pentecostal movements: three tendencies that influence the modus celebrandi and the liturgical and sacramental life of the faithful. Another topic that emerged concerned the richness of the various ministries carried out by the laity in the Church in Nigeria.

The Dicastery also noted a very positive initiative, namely the translation of the Lectionary into Braille. In this way, the visually impaired can not only follow the readings but also carry out the ministry of lector.
