Card. Arthur Roche meets the ICEL Bishops
Card. Arthur Roche met the ICEL Bishops in Washington DC from 10 to 14 January 2025.
The International Commission on English in the Liturgy was established in October 1963 and its primary task is to provide the Member Conferences of Bishops with English translations of the Latin liturgical books of the Roman Rite. For this reason, the ICEL Statutes stipulate the need for regular communication between ICEL and the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
During the five-day meeting the Cardinal Prefect presented the Commission with an electronic copy of the Supplementum of the Liturgy of the Hours and updated the Commission on the imminent publication of the editio typica tertia of the Martyrologium Romanum.
Among other things the Bishops of the Commission issued a Gray Book containing texts related to the Order of Readings for Mass, as well as commencing work on a new English language translation of the Ordo Exsequiarum.
